At the risk of sounding like Bill Murray in the movie Groundhog Day, we know you’ve heard this before but we’ll say it again — you need to blog. Blogging is a top way to bring in customers. It also keeps your website fresh and up-to-date. Regular blogging gives customers and readers a reason to keep coming back to your website to find out what new information you are sharing.

Coming up with engaging content for your blog posts isn’t always easy, but here are 5 ideas that can help jumpstart your next blog post.

1. Sales and promotions.

Customers are always looking for a good deal. If you blog about upcoming events and promotions, it might be just the tip your customers need to make that purchase. At the very least, it helps get people into your sales funnel

2. Your products and services.

You can never go wrong with a blog post about what you’re selling and why people should buy from you. Even if you’ve blogged about it in the past, after a year or so, refresh that blog post with any new offerings or tips. You want customers to keep you top of mind – and they might not have read it the first time around.

3. How to use your products and services.

People are always scouring the internet for how-to tips. I used to work for a cleaning supplies company and blogged about the proper way to mop, sweep, and even clean grout. Showcasing best practices to use your products and services will help your customers make informed decisions. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to embed short videos to provide additional information in another format (not everyone learns the same way).

4. Spotlight your customers.

Do you have customers doing great things with your products? Show them off on your blog. Just like the how-tos above, highlighting customers can give people ideas on different ways to use your products and services, and can even open you up to additional business opportunities. (By the way, if you want your business featured in a future Zibster blog post, email us at marketingteam@photobiz.com.)

5. Behind-the-scenes.

This is one of my favorites and is usually popular with readers, too. Highlight your company behind the scenes. Did you attend a seminar, a trade show, host a holiday party, or a pumpkin carving contest? People love to see businesses in action! It goes back to the old adage, people buy from people, not businesses.

Always remember, there are multiple uses for most blog posts, especially on social media. Many blog posts are evergreen, which means you can repost them again months or even years after the original post. Just read through the blog post first to make sure everything is still up-to-date.

One of my favorite ways to reuse blog posts is #TipTuesday. I take an older blog post and pull out tips (1-3 maximum), to put on a graphic and post on Facebook and Instagram on Tuesdays. You can link back to a blog post, and it’s a great way to give people a glimpse of your areas of expertise when they don’t have time to read a full post. It’s easy, low-hanging fruit to boost your social media.

Finally, blogging gives you a place to send people who have questions. Maybe someone emails you asking for details about a product you sell. If you’ve already written a blog post that answers their questions, you can share the link as part of your response.

Don’t neglect your blog. In slower months, write a few extra posts to save for when you’re busier. And remember that blogging helps your SEO (search engine optimization), so in addition to providing important information, you’re also giving search engines a reason to send more people to your blog.
